Yoshihiro Tatsumi
I’ve just finished reading “Abandon The Old In Tokyo” & ” The Push Man and other stories” by Yoshihiro Tatsumi. A pioneer in the world of Gekiga Comics (Japanese for “Dramatic Pictures”), Tatsumi actually coined the term in 1957 after not wanting to be associated with the larger and more popular Manga (which actually means “Irresponsible...

Jeff Luker
I stumbled upon the photography of Jeff Luker (via FormFiftyFive). There is a hazy, dream-like quality that I love about his work. Jeff is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston and has done work with Nylon, Dazed & Confused, FecalFace, and others. Take a look at his site here.

OSPAAAL Posters
I came across this site dedicated to posters created by The Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa, & Latin America (OSPAAAL). Basically, a leftist political movement founded in Havana in 1966, OSPAAAL was known for their brightly-colored and visually stunning propaganda posters that were included in issues of the Cuban magazine “Tricontinental” and sent to...

Circa 1979: Signal To Noise
Modular Records has created a new online magazine, which they call a “podmag”. The first issue is curated by Australian electronic musicians Severed Heads. It features music & videos from Kraftwerk, The Human League, The Residents and more. I really like the clean interactive layout and at the end you have the option to download and print out a PDF version of the zine. Read it...

After the commercial success of 2001, Kubrick was planning a biopic with Jack Nicholson slated to play the French Emperor (Kubrick being impressed with his performance in Easy Rider). This hefty ten volume book includes all the production notes, location photos (including many shot by...

I.D. Magazine Folds
I.D. Magazine has folded after 55 years. I.D.’s publisher, F&W, cited a decline in advertising and “fragmentation” of I.D.’s core readers. With so many online outlets that (in my opinion) are richer, I can see their trouble. I honestly can’t remember the last issue I purchased and/or read. Sad, nevertheless. F&W stated that they will continue to host the...
